Services for Children

  • Help finding books by author, title, subject, series or keyword.
  • “Reader’s advisory,” which often starts with, “I’m looking for a good book.”
  • Kid Kits for children who are ill or taking a trip. A staff member chooses a bag of library materials based on the child’s reading level and interests. Each kit may include books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, and paper-and-pencil activities.
  • Reserves on checked out materials. We provide materials from any library in the Evergreen system to Guilford Twp. residents.
  • Children’s Activities. These are generally free, but preregistration is sometimes required. In the summer we have a fun Summer Reading Program to encourage children to keep their reading levels up by doing activities and reading for pleasure…and prizes.

Children’s Materials to Check Out

  • Books (fiction, information books, toddler board books, early reader books, picture books)
  • Magazines
  • Books on CD, playaways, and music CDs
  • DVDs and Playaway View Movies

Accelerated Reader

Many of our books are labeled with purple Accelerated Reading book levels on the spine. Do you want to see if a certain book has a quiz? Try the AR Bookfinder – it includes the reading level and number of points for each book with a test.

    Bring Your Class!

We’d love to see your class at the library! Call us at 839-6602 x2109 a week or more ahead to schedule your visit. That way, we’ll be ready, and your visit won’t conflict with a library program or another class visit. When you visit, we can offer:

    • Tours, stories, book talks, and/or orientation to the Children’s Room.
    • Group project reference help.
    • “How to find a book” using our online catalog.
    • Theme or general book talks (also available in your classroom).
    • Browsing and checking out books by students, mix and match with the above.
