How do I get a library card?
You may register for a library card at the Information Desk at the library. The card is free to residents of Guilford Township. You will be asked to present a current Indiana driver’s license or other government-issued photo ID, as well as proof of residence, such as a current utility bill, in order to receive a card.

If you live in a township not served by a library, you may purchase a non-resident card.

If you would like access to all public libraries in the state, you may purchase a Public Library Access Card (PLAC card) at the Information Desk.

How do I find a book?

We have lots of ways of finding the book, movie or other media you need! You can first checkfind a book or other material in the library search the Evergreen catalog. Type in a title, the name of an author, or a word or phrase and click on the search button. The system will return a list of hits for your review. The library online catalog is available from your home or workplace, as well as at the library.

How do I renew an item?

There are two ways to renew library materials:

  1. You may renew a book by calling the Circulation Desk at the library at (317) 838-3804.
  2. You may also renew materials through the library’s online catalog if you have a user’s account . To set up a user’s account, you must have a user ID and a password. The user ID is the number under the barcode on the back of your library card, but may be changed the first time you log in to the system to anything you wish. In order to get your initial password, stop by any help desk and temporary password can be issued to you. Your account will  be active immediately. Log into your account from the library’s page by clicking on the “My Account” tab on the left side of the menu or by clicking here. Log in, and select “items out” to see everything you have checked out, and the renewal option will be available from that screen.

How do I research a topic?

To research a topic you may come to the library where a staff of professionals are on hand to help you find information you are looking for. Our help desks are staffed during all of our business hours. You may also call the help desk at (317) 838-3800.

If you would like to start your research from home, you may use the library’s online catalog, or you can use many of our research tools and databases on the Digital Resources page from home using your card number.

How can I donate to the library?

The Friends of the Library accept donations of used books for resale in the Friends Book Sale Room. Donations should be brought to the Circulation Desk at the library during regular business hours.

Monetary donations may be made to the library. The library has a general gift and memorial fund as well has a historical gift and memorial fund that benefits the Guilford Township Historical Collection (local history and genealogy).

Donations may also be made to the Plainfield Public Library Endowment held by the Hendricks County Community Foundation. Gifts to this fund are invested in perpetuity. The library uses interest earned to support the goals of the library.

How do I reserve a meeting room?

To reserve a meeting you must fill out a Meeting Room Request form by following one of these procedures:

  1. Ask for a meeting room form at the Circulation Desk.
  2. Call the Meeting Room Manager at 317-839-6602, ext. 2135.

Request forms must be submitted well in advance of the meeting date since all forms must be reviewed and approved. Also, for details about the use of the meeting rooms, please read the Meeting Room Policy.

How can I use the library’s computers if I don’t have a library card?

Computers are available throughout the library. Users may log in by typing in their library card number or their name.

May I check things out if I don’t have a library card?

You must have a library card to check out materials. PGTPL is a member of Evergreen Indiana, and any Evergreen Library cardholder in good standing may also check out.

Can I print from the library’s computers?

Yes, black and white prints are $0.10 each, color prints are $0.25 each.

How many things can I check out at once?

DVDs are limited to 10 per person. You may take as many books, CDs and other items as you wish.

How long can I keep books, DVDs and other items?

Books, audiobooks, magazines, pamphlets, and CDs may be borrowed for up to 3 weeks. DVDs may be borrowed for 1 week.

Can I check things out if I have late fines or fees on my account?

Yes, but you must owe no more than $10.00 in fines and fees.

Does the library accept credit cards for payment?

Yes, the library accepts Discover, MasterCard and Visa.

Can I check out materials online?

Yes! PGTPL is a member of a library consortium that provides downloadable books and audiobooks compatible with devices including iPhone, Android phones, and the Barnes and Noble Nook. Just check out Central Indiana Digital Consortium to browse available titles. All you need is your library card.

For physical items owned by the library, you may place holds, review your account and any materials that you have checked out or placed on hold by visiting your account online.

What if the library does not have the title I’m looking for?

Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library is an Evergreen Indiana library; if you don’t find what you’re looking for here you have access to the other libraries in the consortium. Simply place a hold on the item (excluding DVDs and CDs) you’d like and it will be shipped here within a week or two.

A Plainfield patron whose account is in good standing (no overdue fines or fees) may fill out up to 3 interlibary loan requests at one time. Request cards are available at the library’s Information Services desk. Interlibary loans are usually available within 2-3 weeks, depending on the popularity of the title.

You can recommend ordering a title at any public service desk.
