About the Department The Adult/Young Adult Services manages the library’s information and reference services. It also provides programming for teens and adults. The department manages the library’s interlibrary loan and home bound delivery services. The department manages the library’s nonfiction collection.

About the Department The Children’s Services department maintains a collection for children ages birth to 12 years. The collection contains materials in all formats including books, magazines, videos and music. The department also provides programming for children of all ages. The department also provides homework help including a collection of textbooks from the local schools.

About the Department The Circulation Department handles all business concerning the loaning of library materials. This includes registrations for library cards, collecting fines and fees, managing holds, renewals and overdues. The department head selects adult fiction and feature films and also provides reader’s advisory services in the fiction area. The department manages, cleans and repairs all audio visual materials.

Local and Indiana Information Department

About the Department The Local and Indiana Information Department is made up of several collections. There are:

Guilford Township Historical Collection (H) : a permanent reference collection containing resources on Plainfield, Guilford Township, Hendricks County and Indiana. These materials do not circulate and must be used in the library.

Indiana Circulating Collection (IC) : circulating materials housed in the department’s reading room.

Historical Reference Collection (HR) : A reference collection which includes historical materials as well as current Indiana codes, directories, etc.

The department provides library programs on Indiana topics. It also maintains online resources for researchers and genealogists on its web page.

Materials Acquisition and Processing Services

About the Department Materials Acquisitions and Processing Services orders all library materials and performs the processing necessary to prepare materials for use. Processing includes: Cataloging (the physical description of the materials), classification (assigning call numbers), and entering the records into the online catalog using MARC (Machine Readable Cataloging) records. Physical processing includes stamping and adding various spine labels. The department also orders, receives and processes magazines. The department also is responsible for withdrawing materials and online records as well as performing inventories.
