1. How do I get a library card?

You may register for a library card at the Circulation Desk at the library. The card is free to residents of Guilford Township. You will be asked to present a current Indiana driver’s license or other government-issued photo ID in order to receive a card. If you do not have a current license or photo ID, you may purchase a one-time temporary card for $30 which is good for 60 days.

You may also register for a free card if you live in another library district in Hendricks County and have a library card from your “home” library. You may also purchase a non-resident card if you live in an area of the county with no library card.

If you would like access to all public libraries in the state, you may purchase a Public Library Access Card (PLAC card) at the Circulation Desk.

 

 
2. How do I find a book?

To find a book or other material in the library search the electronic catalog iBistro. Type in a title, the name of an author, or a word or phrase and click on the drop-down menu to indicate which type of search you are doing. Then click on the search button. The system will return a list of hits for your review. The library online catalog is available from home as well as at the library.

 

 
3. How do I renew a book?

There are two ways to renew library materials.

1) You may renew a book by calling the Circulation Desk at the library (839-6602, ext. 132.)

2) You may also renew materials through the library’s online catalog if you have a user’s account . To set up a user’s account, you must have a user ID and a PIN (personal identification number.) The user ID is the number above the barcode on the back of your library card. In order to get a PIN, call the Circulation Desk and ask to add a PIN to your user’s account here at the library. This will be a 4-digit number that you select. Your account will active immediately. Log into your account on the iBistro search page in the top right-hand corner. Click on “My Account” in the bar menu. Next, click on “Renew My Materials.”

 

 
4. How do I research a topic?

To research a topic you may come to the library where a staff of professionals are on hand to help you find information you are looking for. Our help desks are staffed during all of our business hours. You may also call the help desks (839-6602.)

If you would like to start your research from home, you may use the iBistro, the library’s online catalog.

 

 
5. How do I donate to Plainfield | Guilford Township Public Library?

The Friends of the Library accept donations of used books for resale in the Friends Used Book Sale Room. Donations should be brought to the Circulation Desk at the library during regular business hours.

Monetary donations may be made to the library. The library has a general gift and memorial fund as well has a historical gift and memorial fund that benefits the Indiana Room.

Donations may also be made to the Plainfield Public Library Foundation through the Hendricks County Community Foundation. Gifts to this fund are invested in perpetuity. The library uses interest earned to support the goals of the library.

 

 
6. How do I reserve a meeting room?

To reserve a meeting you must fill out a Meeting Room Request form by following one of these procedures:

1) Ask for a meeting room form at the Circulation Desk.
2) Call the Meeting Room Manager at 317-839-6602, ext. 135.
3) Fill out the online meeting room form.

Request forms must be submitted well in advance of the meeting date since all forms must be reviewed and approved. Also, for details about the use of the meeting rooms, please read the Meeting Room Policy.

11. May I use the library’s Internet computers if I don’t have a library card?

Yes, the Adult and Young Adult Services department has several Internet computers with word processing capability and a typewriter for general public use.

 

 
12. May I check out books and other material if I don’t have a library card?

You must have a library card to check out materials. If you have a library card from another Hendricks County library and your account is in good standing, you may check out materials from Plainfield | Guilford Township Public Library. Materials checked out from PGTPL under the reciprocal borrowing policy must be returned to PGTPL.

 

 
13. Can I print from a library computer?

Yes, black and white prints and copies are $0.10 each.

 

 
14. How many CDs or DVDs am I allowed to checkout at one time?

CDs are limited to 10 per card. Adults may check out 10 DVDs.  Adults and Juveniles may check out 3 Juvenile DVDs.

 

 
15. How long may I borrow library books and other materials?

Books, audiobooks, magazines, pamphlets, CDs and audio tapes may be borrowed for up to 3 weeks. DVDs and videos may be borrowed for 1 week.

 

 
16. Am I able to check out books if I have late charges on my account?

Yes, but you must owe no more than $5.00 in fines and fees.

 

 
17. Does the library accept credit card for payment?

Yes, on payments for fines and fees amounting to $10 or more the library accepts MasterCard and Visa.

 

 
18. Can I check out materials online?

No. But you can place holds, review your account and any materials that you have checked out or placed on hold by visiting your account online .

 

 
19. What if the library does not have the title I’m looking for?

A Plainfield | Guilford Township patron whose account is in good standing (no overdue fines or fees) may fill out up to 3 interlibary loan requests at one time. Request cards are available at the library's Adult and Young Adult information desk. Interlibary loans are usually available within 2-3 weeks, depending on the popularity of the title.
