Research Requests
There is no set fee for our local history/genealogy services. Donations to the Library's Gift Fund are gratefully received and will be used to buy additional materials for the collection. Checks may be made out to: Plainfield Public Library with "genealogy" noted on the memo line.

Family Search Affiliate Library
The Indiana Room at the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library is a Family Search Affiliate Library with FamilySearch.org and the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. If you are interested in ordering and borrowing any of their over 2 million reels of microfilmed records, you are now able to select PGTPL as the destination for your microfilm. When your film arrives, you may use the readers at this library for viewing and copying. We return the films for you when your borrowing time is finished.

Extensive Hendricks County materials for genealogy and local history include, but are not limited to:

The collection includes one or more books on most Indiana counties. A 6-volume set of Indiana Quaker records by Willard Heiss is also available.

The local history collection includes a good representation of books on the state, both general histories and volumes on specific subjects.
Morgan, Putnam, Boone and Montgomery Counties

Photocopies
A coin-operated machine is located in the Indiana Room. **All materials must be approved by the staff before copying. In certain cases, fragile materials must be copied by staff. Photocopies are $0.10 (ten cents) for letter and legal sized paper. Ledger sized paper (11x17) is $0.20 (twenty cents) per page.
Closed Stacks
The GUILFORD TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL COLLECTION (materials with call numbers beginning "H") includes non-circulating local and Indiana history, and genealogy books. This reference collection is shelved in closed stacks. Patrons may use the library's catalog to locate titles for viewing. Staff will bring these books to you upon request.
How to request information from closed stacks:
Books with call numbers starting with "H" are located in the archives and are retrieved by the staff. To request a book:
- List the complete call number, author and title of the work.
- Ask a staff member to obtain the books. Please limit the number of books in use to 5 at a time.
- Return books to a staff member when finished, and before requesting additional materials.
