26 Apr Crown Hill Cemetery Tour… Skeletons in the Closet
Join us Thursday, July 28 at 6:00pm for an evening tour of Crown Hill Cemetery, the nation’s third largest cemetery. Participants will enjoy the Stories in Stone private guided walking tour. On this tour we’ll explore some of the interesting examples of both Victorian and contemporary symbolism on markers and monuments found throughout the cemetery. If you’ve ever wondered about symbols–like ferns, weeping willows, stars, anchors, draped flags, lambs, sun disks, angels, and wreaths–then this tour is for you! Our guide will also contrast these symbols with more contemporary monuments and markers which often feature elaborate engravings, reflecting the person’s life. Our tour will conclude with a sunset view of the downtown Indianapolis skyline from James Whitcomb Riley’s tomb high atop beautiful Crown Hill. This tour will cover 1.5 miles at a moderate pace. Bottled water, insect repellent and comfy shoes are a must!
REGISTRATION: Registration is required and limited to age 12 and up. Participants will need to provide their own transportation to the cemetery. Once registered, you will be contacted no later than July with details about where to park and meet for the tour.
To register, call (317) 839-6602 x.2114 or register online.
The walking tour is approximately one mile, 2 hours.
