Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award

Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award

Do your kids love picture books? Then check out the Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award! This annual award allows children ages 0-5 to vote on their favorite picture books, with the help of an adult. To vote, read this year’s nominees and then print off a copy of the official ballot for each child. Help them choose their favorite. Then return the ballot to PGTPL. We will pass it on to the Indiana Center for the Book. Or if you’d prefer, attend the Firefly Award Storytime at PGTPL on Sunday May 5 from 2-2:30 p.m., and Monday May 13 from 6:30-7 p.m. where we will read the Firefly nominees and pass out ballots.

Voting ends on May 15 with the announcement of the award to follow soon after.

The 2019 nominees for the Firefly Award are:

A Hippy-Hoppy Toad by Peggy Archer

Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall

There’s a Monster in Your Book by Tom Fletcher

Hello Hello by Brendan Wenzel

Play This Book by Jessica Young

For more information about the award, you can visit the Indiana State Library’s Firefly Award page.

All the picture books read for the Firefly Award also count towards the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program, so be sure to sign up at the library or on our website!
