Summer Lunch in Plainfield

Summer Lunch in Plainfield

As the school year draws to a close, there are many families looking for easy, affordable options for lunch. The Kids’ Summer Lunch Bunch and the Quaker Lunch Truck are two options for free lunches for children ages 18 and under.

Summer Lunch Bunch

Kids’ Summer Lunch Bunch serves lunch every Tuesday and Thursday from June 4 to July 25 at noon at Franklin Park. Each lunch is provided by a local organization, and is free for children. During lunch, kids can enjoy playing in the park or participating in a storytime and craft provided by the library. Keep your eyes peeled for your favorite librarians at the park!

Quaker Lunch Truck

Every weekday from June 3 to July 19, the Quaker Lunch Truck has two locations in town: Gladden Farms Apartments from 11-11:45 a.m. and the Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library from 12:15-1 p.m. This lunch, sponsored by the USDA and the Plainfield Community School Corporation, is free for children ages 18 and under.

According to USDA requirements for the Quaker Lunch Truck, food must be consumed on-site. So, if you are planning to eat lunch at the library this summer, beat the heat and come inside! Each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, PGTPL has a children’s program beginning at 12:30 p.m. Teen Central, the space just for students in grades 6-12, has several lunchtime programs scheduled this summer. We encourage patrons to eat their lunch while participating, since the library is food friendly. Kids at Gladden Farms can also enjoy a story and craft provided by the library once a week.

Don’t forget: children and teens of all ages can register for the Summer Reading Club, select prizes for completion, or enjoy the library’s games, computers, magazines, and books! Anyone signed up for the Summer Reading Club will receive a raffle ticket for each program they attend at the library over the summer.

Please note that Kids’ Summer Lunch Bunch and the Quaker Lunch Truck will not serve lunch on Thursday, July 4 or Friday July 5.
