24 Apr Never Too Old for YA Book Club
We firmly believe that everyone should feel free to unabashedly read YA (Young Adult novels), so we created something for you to do just that!
Are you searching for something new to read after the epic conclusion of the Throne of Glass series? Maybe you pointed out all of the differences between Netflix’s adaptation of Dumplin’ and the book? Do you lament the lack of friends who understand your rants about your favorite characters?
Does this sound like you? Join our new YA book club that celebrates the fact that you’re never too old to enjoy YA!
Our first discussion, focused on Neal Shusterman’s Scythe, is at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 6 at Johnson’s Coffee Shop. This book is a fascinating take on a future in which natural death, war, disease, and even government have been overcome by advances in technology. The Thunderhead, an evolved version of our current-day cloud, keeps everything and everyone in order and safe. Because natural death has been vanquished, humans can turn the corner to become young again as often as they want. They can even participate in dangerous activities knowing that they’ll be revived if they ever fatally wound themselves. However, there are scythes in place to curb population growth. The main characters, Citra and Rowan, become apprentices to a scythe, and though neither wants the job, they must master the art of taking life or risk losing their own.
At the end of our discussion, we will vote on a book for the next month’s meeting. We can’t wait to hear what you think about this book and we hope to see you there!
