Phase 1 on schedule

Our first floor renovation continues! Phase 1 of the project, which includes the Children’s Room, the Indiana Room, the Quiet Study Area, the Study Rooms, and the Lobby Conference Room is on schedule. We expect this phase to wrap up by November 1st. However, these areas will still be closed to the public as they will be used as storage for all of the furniture, equipment, and shelving from Teen Central, the staff workroom, and the main area of the library. 

Phase 2 begins soon

Phase 2 includes the main area of the library, Teen Central, and the staff workroom. Work includes improvements to the main area of the library, such as new carpet, a new Information Desk, a new computer area, electrical/data work, new seating, and some cosmetic updates. Teen Central will receive new flooring and some electrical/data work. The book return area will be reconfigured and staff areas will be reworked for efficiency and security.

During Phase 2, the vast majority of the first floor of the library will be inaccessible to the public. The public meeting rooms, large restrooms, and the Art Gallery on the second floor will remain available. We will operate on a limited Lobby Service model starting Monday, October 23rd with normal operating hours. Phase 2 is expected to conclude by the beginning of January.

Here is our Phase 2 timeline:

Monday, October 16th: Teen Central will begin operating on a limited basis to prepare for construction. Except for the teen collection, most services in this area, including computers, games, programs, and seating will be unavailable. Parents are strongly encouraged to find alternative after school arrangements starting Monday, October 16th and lasting through the beginning of January.

Sunday, October 22nd: The library will close to set up for Lobby Service.

Monday, October 23rd: Lobby Service will begin and will last until Phase 2 is completed by the beginning of January. The book drop will remain open and items may be returned in the lobby. We will also have limited collection browsing available in the lobby. Unfortunately, the vast majority of our collections will not be open for browsing, but library staff will be able to retrieve items for patrons upon request. Please note that the library will be closed on Friday, November 10 for staff training. We will also close at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 22nd and will be closed on Thursday, November 23rd for Thanksgiving.

Please pardon the dust and noise as we work to enhance and improve the library. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during construction. We look forward to serving our community in a newly renovated space soon.
