Spooky Snacks for Small Chefs

Spooky Snacks for Small Chefs

Bring your children into the kitchen with these fun and spooky snacks! They’re tasty and perfect for little hands to make.

Clementine Pumpkins

These cute pumpkins are very simple! You will need a clementine and something green for the stem. The recipe calls for a bit of celery, but I ended up using pistachio nuts.
1. Peel the clementine
2. Stick celery or pistachio into the top of the clementine
And there you have a little pumpkin!

Banana Ghosts

These ghosts are also easy! You will need a banana and some chocolate chips for the eyes. If you don’t have chocolate chips, something like a raisin can work too!
1. Peel and half the banana
2. Insert the chocolate chip eyes
And now you have your little ghosts! I found that the normal sized chocolate chips were a little big for the banana. You may have better luck with mini chocolate chips.

Apple Monster Teeth

Apples and peanut butter are snack favorites, and these monster teeth are a spooky twist on an old classic. You will need an apple, peanut butter or other nut butter, and something for the teeth. The recipe calls for mini marshmallows, but I found that pumpkin seeds and dried fruit (like raisins or dried cranberries) work great too.
1. Cut and core the apple.
2. Spread peanut butter or other nut butter on each slice.
3. Place the marshmallow teeth on one slice of the apple.
4. Sandwich together with another slice of apple with peanut butter. Press together for them to stick.
These were super delicious and easy to make. I used an apple corer, but you can use a knife if you don’t have one. I also found that I needed to half the slices again, as they were a little too big to eat.

Kids in the Kitchen

Overall, these are all easy recipes to make with kids. Peeling and placing small objects are great to strengthen your child’s fingers, and will eventually help them with other fine motor tasks such as writing and cutting. Having little ones in the kitchen is also good for demystifying the kitchen, and showing them that it’s a place that can be fun with proper supervision.
Enjoy making these spooky snacks!
