October 2023 Silent Auction

October 2023 Silent Auction

October is here and that means beautiful fall colors and cooler temperatures. It also means
the Friends of the Plainfield Library silent action has a new selection of books! The books
cover a number of subjects from slow cooking to dream interpretation to Jack Lemmon and
more.

Weddings and Movie Stars features pictures and stories of Hollywood weddings from the
1920s and onwards, some from real life and others from movie sets. It contains many
previously never released images of simple to luxurious weddings with designer gowns and
famous guests. There are official portraits and behind-the-scenes photos of weddings that
resulted in long and happy marriages and others that did not.

If you follow the World Series more than Hollywood weddings, you might like Baseball: An
Illustrated History by Geoffrey C. Ward and Ken Burns. Published in conjunction with the
PBS television series, it has nine chapters (innings) devoted to the evolution of baseball with
over 500 photos. For people who want light and humorous, the auction offers books from
the For Better or For Worse and Calvin and Hobbes collections.

Library Construction Impact on Silent Auction: At this time, the silent auction will
not be held in November and December when the main part of the library is being
renovated. Watch social media for the status of the silent auction.

The silent auction is made possible by donations from library supporters. Proceeds are used
to fund library programs for the community. Thank you for supporting the auction!
