Try at Home: Spring Flower Activities

Spring is here! Now that we have wonderful warm weather to enjoy, trips to the park or walks around your neighborhood are great ways to get your kids active and enjoy the spring weather! Here are a couple of ways to make those park outings or walks interactive for your kiddos and to help them engage with nature.

Collect flowers/leaves by color

This can be a great activity to learn about plants and color recognition!

Materials: a piece of cardboard, crayons, and tape

Use the crayons to color several small squares in different colors on the cardboard. On your walk, find leaves or flowers that match the colors and tape them to the correct square.

Cardboard Wildflower Bouquet

Materials: Cardboard, marker, & pencil to poke holes in the cardboard.

Draw a vase on the piece of cardboard and poke several holes above it.

This one may be simpler for younger children. Simply collect flowers to put in their vase! Talk with them about what they like about those flowers and work on fine motor skills by helping them thread the stem through the hole in the cardboard.

Both of these activities only require simple prep before you head out for your walk and can be recycled later. Now, get outside and enjoy a warm spring day!
