Help for Homeschoolers at PGTPL

Are you a local homeschooling family with curriculum or materials that your children have outgrown or that you’re no longer using? Or are you looking for new books and resources to help you get started or supplement what you’re already doing?

If so, PGTPL has just the event for you!

Homeschool Curriculum Swap and Meet and Greet

This year, we’re hosting our first-ever homeschool curriculum swap. From Monday, August 4 through Friday, August 8, homeschoolers are welcome to drop off any curriculum, books, or materials that you are no longer using. Bring them to the Children’s Desk whenever the library is open!

Then on Saturday, August 9, from 10:30-11a, you’re invited to a casual meet and greet where homeschool families can gather to build relationships with one another, discuss what’s worked well for you, share your challenges, and exchange ideas and information. You can also pick up any of the donated resources that might be helpful for your family!

In addition, you’ll learn about what PGTPL has to offer for homeschool families, including an overview of homeschool programming, helpful books and materials you can check out, and digital resources that can support your efforts.

Here’s an overview of some things we’ll discuss

Throughout the school year, we offer programs geared toward homeschool families on the second Thursday of every month (September-May) from 2-2:30p. Topics vary each month, but a typical year includes STEM, history, culture, and creative programs to provide a well-rounded experience. The programs always feature hands-on activities where parents engage with their children to foster learning, and we highlight relevant books and resources that can be checked out and used at home. Details are printed in our monthly program calendars and available on our website. Programs do not require registration and you don’t need a library card to attend!

PGTPL has even more to offer local homeschool families! We have a wide variety of books – both fiction and nonfiction – at all reading levels and on every subject imaginable. We also have games, puzzles, and STEM kits that people can use in the library or check out for more learning fun! Our current digital resources include eBooks, eAudiobooks, databases, kid-safe search engines, and pre-planned lessons that you can access from anywhere with your library card.

With our collection kits, home educators can request a number of books on a particular topic and reading level and then let library staff do the work of gathering the books for you.

If you’re a homeschooling family, PGTPL is proud to offer a variety of programs and resources to support you in your educational efforts. Stop in today and learn more!
